I am a transplanted New Yorker. We moved to Florida in 1993 from Long Island. We are on the Gulf of Mexico about 80 miles north of the Tampa area next to a
city called Crystal River. We moved here because it is very pretty and quiet, unlike the east coast of Florida. Quite a way for shell shocked New Yorkers to
live. I do have Florida blood in my veins, my father was born and brought up in Tampa.
I am married to a wonderful man, David, since 1960! We had two sons but lost one in 2004.
Sometimes it is hard to believe so many years have passed.
Fortunately nursing jobs are easy to find and I worked here in the local hospital recovery room (PACU = Post Anesthesia Care Unit) until I retired. I now do
some medical research online for a group of doctors. I also seem to be one of the resident nurses on this forum! Glad to try to answer questions.
Because I am online a lot, I can easily look for freebies and post them to this site.
I am also involved in genealogy, gardening, volunteering in the community, cleaning the house (when necessary) and occassional mystery shopping. I shop
supermarkets and restaurants mainly, but once in a while find an amusement-type shop in Ocala or Orlando (think Disney). Sometimes I shop a local department
store. I will not do banks, gas stations, fast food or big box stores. I guess I do about 8 shops a month, but look almost daily anyway.
Dave and I are owned by three cats: Murphy who is a female ruddy Abyssinian, Maven who is a female tortise-shell long haired Siamese, and Fugly who is
Maven's littermate, and one of the oddest Siamese cats I have ever seen.
We have traveled quite a bit. We loved the Caribbean, having gone there 20 - 30 times. We have also sailed on Windjammer Barefoot Cruises about 8 or 10 times
(no! you don't help to sail them). We have been to Europe, once taking the boys when they were young. But our favorite place in the entire world is
Jerusalem. We would go again, but with the terrorism there, we will stay home.
We own a conversion van, which has a kitchen, double bed, potty, TV and a lot of closet room. The only thing it does not have is a shower, but most of the
places we stay at do have showers. We have taken the camper up and down the east coast, including New York, Hershey, Atlantic City, the Smokey Mountains,
Tennessee, Georgia and many places in Florida. We plan to use it more as we get a chance. We are members of a campgrounds group called Thousand Trails.
